Grateful Dead to tour in 2009
The surviving members of The Grateful Dead have announced that they will embark on their first tour in nearly five years this spring.
The quartet, which now calls itself simply The Dead, plans to hit the road beginning in mid-April and play approximately 20 shows across the US through mid-May.
The band reformed last October for a Barack Obama benefit concert in Pennsylvania, fueling rumours that they would get together for a proper tour.
The band, which now consists of original members Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, will be joined by their 2004 tourmates Warren Haynes on guitar (replacing late guitarist Jerry Garcia) and Jeff Chimenti on keyboards.
